2004.Road.Trip.Day6.2

Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (more photos here). Very cool! The grass is european beach grass that was originally planted in 1900 to stabilize the dunes. This is one of the few areas where land is actually being added: the grass and trees spread to the dunes as they’re built up by ocean waves, which prevents them from being eroded by wind and further wave action. It would have been fun to rent a dune buggy for an afternoon and go careening around, but we didn’t have time.
